"From helping newborn babies to our program for Deaf Seniors, there is a range of programs that our Deaf Lottery supporters make possible."
Meet Leonie, part of the Deaf Services Contact Centre team.
Fresh to retirement after working in Hospitality for over 30 years (and not content to rest!), Leonie took the advice of a friend working for Deaf Services who thought she would enjoy the environment of the Deaf Services Contact Centre, a suggestion Leonie "found to be 100% correct."
"I live close to the office," says Leonie, "so it's a short walk to work each day where I communicate with a wonderful group of fellow workers."
It's clear that Leonie loves the variety of people she can talk to throughout a day, learning the stories of everyone involved in Deaf Services and The Deaf Lottery.
"Being a Contact Centre Team Member gives me the opportunity to spread the word about the great work Deaf Services does throughout the community," she explains. "From helping newborn babies to our program for Deaf Seniors, there is a range of programs that our Deaf Lottery supporters make possible."
Like many of her team members, Leonie draws great satisfaction from watching the transition of a Lottery supporter who may initially have little idea about Deaf Services, through to a valued and connected VIP Club Member who knows exactly what their support delivers to the Deaf community.
"I have daily contact with new supporters as well as those who have been with us for many years," says Leonie. "I enjoy hearing their stories, and their reasons for supporting us."
The culmination each Lottery is also a highlight for her, when a winner is chosen and informed that their life is about to change forever.
"When a winner is contacted, it's amazing to be a part of their excitement. It's because of their support that means Deaf Services can continue its amazing work, and that's what makes being a Call Centre Team Member worthwhile."
Thank you for sharing your story, Leonie.
