"I love working for such an excellent cause, and have met so many amazing people."
Meet Clare, part of the Deaf Services Contact Centre team.
Clare works as a Deaf Services Contact Centre operator, undertaking a variety of roles including ticket sales, VIP Club Member queries and communications about community services.
"I received a very exciting call four years ago from my Recruitment Consultant to say that Deaf Services would like me to attend an interview," Clare remembers. "I haven't looked back! I love working for such an excellent cause, and have met so many amazing people."
Clare describes herself as a "people person" and loves the interaction each day brings with Lottery supporters and colleagues.
"We work as a team to provide excellent customer service and to raise as much money as possible for the Deaf and hard of hearing community. I want Deaf Services recognised by as many people as possible."
One of Clare's favourite parts of her work is Lottery Draw Day, when she is able to listen to the phone call where the 1st Prize Winner is informed their life has just changed.
"It's amazing to hear the stories of our winners," says Clare. "It really makes our job worthwhile, knowing firstly that we are raising money for such a great cause, then to hear our winners so excited when they get the phone call."
In the future, Clare says she would love to see Auslan (Australian Sign Language) become a part of the Australian school curriculum.
"It would be so awesome to see every student learning Auslan," she says. "I have some lovely friends now through work who are profoundly deaf, and after doing a Deaf Services Auslan course I am able to communicate with them, which is so wonderful."
Thank you for sharing your story, Clare.
